Apo Island is located 30km off the coast of Dumaguete, Negros Island. It is known for its dive sites and snorkeling, definitely an island not to be missed.
Luckily, where we stayed in Dumaguete was just a 30-minutes jeepney ride to Malatapay Port. When we arrived at the port we're welcomed by the boatmen asking if we are just going on a day tour or we plan to stay on the island.
During our visit, there was only 1 small eatery open, so we decided to get some coffee as we are waiting for the boatmen preparing for the boat we will use in going to the island.
We paid Php4500 for the boat as there were 5 of us. We met 2 Spanish couples and we decided to share on the cost of the boat. Php300/each for the Environmental Fee and Php900/each for the Tour Guide & Equipment when we reached the island.
As we are only there for a day trip, we had to rent for a table for our stuff but we got a deal that the table would be free as we will just order our food from the same restaurant. The food was good and who wouldn't enjoy beachside dining?
Fortunately there's just few tourists that day, I think there we're only 3 boats including ours so it felt like we had the island all to ourselves so it was nice to walk around and explore more of the island while our guide was preparing the equipment we will be using for snorkeling.
We snorkeled in a huge loop of the area following our tour guide and explored the underwater world of Apo Island.
It's pretty much guaranteed that you'll be able to see turtles when you venture out on an Apo Island tour. We actually saw like 4 or 5 of them, but here's a huge one.
Aside from the turtles, this tiny Island is also well known for its beautiful coral beds and plentiful marine life, making it the perfect place to enjoy some snorkeling or diving.
My underwater camera doesn't give justice on how beautiful was it underwater. I would definitely come back explore more of what Apo Island has to offer, maybe staying on the island will also be a good idea.
